FAQs

I thought I’d respond here to several FAQs (frequently asked questions).

What exactly is a storyboard print?

A storyboard print is a collection of photographs (usually three or more) edited together to make a collage.  Storyboard prints are available in a variety of sizes.  After I e-mail you the proofs from your session, let me know if you are interested in a storyboard print and, if so, which images you would like to have included on the storyboard.  You can either select several images that you’d like or let me know if there is one particular photo that you would like me to design a storyboard around.  I’ll e-mail you a proof of the storyboard and we can make any adjustments you’d like.  Text (such as your child’s name and age) can be added to the storyboards.

Do you have any suggestions for framing a storyboard print?

Why yes, I do.  I suffered sticker shock when I took one of the first storyboards of my son to a frame shop to have it custom framed (over $100)!  Needless to say, I left the shop without a frame and racked my brain for a less expensive alternative.  Here’s what I came up with.

Go to a department store (such as Kohls or Target) and purchase a frame that has a mat for three 4 by 6 photos.  I especially like the Malden frames that are sold at Kohls, which are available in a variety of finishes.  The Malden frames are regularly priced at $25, but you can often find them on sale for 50% off.  Then you remove the three opening matting from the frame and take the frame and your storyboard print to a store that does custom framing (I like to use Hobby Lobby).  Tell them that you would like a single opening mat cut to fit your frame and photo.  If you choose a white mat, they can cut it while you wait for about $5.  So, for less than $20 you can frame your storyboard in a beautiful frame.    Below is a photo of two of the frames as you would find them in the store and a storyboard print that’s in one of the Malden frames.

Do you have any suggestions for framing one of the signature name photos (or a 4 by 12 storyboard print)?

Why yes, I do.  The signature name photos are 4 by 12 inches, which just happens to be the same size as a panoramic photo.  (No, that’s not a coincidence.)  Wolfe’s carries some nice panoramic frames (black or walnut) for about $15.   Department stores sometimes have panoramic frames too.

I’m pregnant, but my baby isn’t due for months, should I wait until after the baby is born to let you know I’m interested in getting newborn portraits?

No, as soon as you decide that you would like us to photograph your newborn, please let us know.  Of course, you won’t know the exact date your baby will be born, or when you’d like to schedule your session, but by letting us know in advance of your baby’s birth, we can make note of your due date and plan our schedule accordingly.  The best time to photograph a newborn is when they are less than 2 weeks old.  That way, we can capture that “just born” look.  Plus, if you book your newborn session in before August 31, you can take advantage of our August specials.

I’m interested in Christmas portraits, but I can’t make it on December 3.  Do you have any alternative dates available?

An alternative date may be available for the Santa portraits, so give me a call.  Also, if you are interested in Christmas portraits and can’t make it when Santa is visiting or you would prefer portraits without Santa, we can take your portraits on a date other than December 3 using our Christmas set.

Of course, I have to add a recent storyboard I did of my son.
