Occupational Hazards

I’m beginning to realize that photography comes with certain occupational hazards: the bug bites, the very real possibility of getting poison ivy, the bitter cold wind in the winter, the scorching hot sun in summer, the need to scale steep creek banks, and even the various forms of animal excrement that I inadvertently lay in to get just the right shot.  But I never imagined the occupational hazard that I encountered last night when photographing these adorable triplets.

I photographed the triplets at Cedar Crest, which is one of my favorite locations.  The girls were so excited to go explore a “play house” that’s out there.  As we approached the little building, the girls were in front of me and their mom and grandmother were behind me.  I then hear someone say the “S” word.  No, not THAT “S” word, but “snake.”  I look down and a fairly large snake is sliding right by me and headed toward the girls.  I would like to tell you that I sprung into action and rescued the girls, but I completely froze.  I just couldn’t believe there was a snake.  A snake at the little building that I LOVE to shoot at.  A snake sliding through the very grass that I lay in to get just the right shot.  A snake headed toward these adorable little girls.  I finally grabbed one of the girl’s hands and the other two followed as we got out of there without them seeing the snake.  Needlesstosay, I won’t be shooting at that little building again any time soon.  So, enjoy these pre-snake shots from my favorite little building.

I’ll miss you little building, it was good while it lasted.

Water Fun

Last night we thought Tanner might have fun playing outside in the sprinkler, but he wasn’t up for playing in the water at first.  Here’s a shot of Tanner getting sprayed with the hose (Tanner wasn’t enjoying it too much…can you tell?).

Tanner kept peeking over to see if the neighbor kids were outside playing and was so excited when they invited him over to play in their pools.  Tanner is so lucky to have such fun kids to play with next door.

The neighbor kids put on quite a show for Tanner…they would run and jump into the big pool as Tanner watched from the little pool.  This shot of Tanner’s reaction to them just cracks me up.

Then the kids came over to our house to play in the sprinkler.  Tanner wasn’t too sure about running through the sprinkler, so I asked Mallory to take his hand and run with him.  They must have run through the sprinkler together like this at least a dozen times.  So sweet!

After all that practice with Mallory, Tanner was ready to brave the sprinkler by himself.

In other exciting news, our brand new camera just arrived on our doorstep.  We ordered it weeks and weeks ago and since it is a new model hot off the production line, there was a delay in getting it.  Kris had been absolutely positively driving me crazy constantly checking his e-mail to see if it shipped and pouring over the photography forums to see whether any cameras shipped that day.  Well, the company we ordered it from didn’t even tell us it shipped, so he is going to be beside himself with excitement when he realizes its here.  I’m charging the battery now so when he gets home it’ll be ready to go.  I’m sure we will have plenty of pics to share in the coming days.

Farm Kids Sessions

I am long overdue in posting some of my favorite photos from the farm kids sessions.  The kids had a great time farming and I think it shows in the photos.

This next little guy was celebrating his first birthday and he just so happened to be having a John Deere themed party.  Talk about great timing.

And, of course, we can’t forget about Farmer Tanner.

Bridal Sessions

Thank you all for spreading the word about our wedding photography!  We’ve already had a lot of calls and e-mails with inquiries to do weddings.  We also offer bridal sessions to photograph the bride either before or after the wedding day at a leisurely pace without all the hustle and bustle that comes along with the excitement of the big day.  Here are some of my favorite shots from two recent bridal sessions.

If you (or someone you know) were married recently and didn’t quite get the portraits you were hoping for on the big day, then give me a call to discuss a bridal session.  I would love the opportunity to work with you to create unique bridal portraits.

Blue, Blue Eyes

Check out the bright blue eyes on this little sweetie I had the pleasure of photographing recently:

And I LOVE this next one…is she happy or what?

The past several days have been so busy with the farm kids sessions and sessions at Loose Park in Kansas City, not to mention several family sessions and a bridal session.  Phew!  (Don’t worry, I’ll post samples from those sessions soon.)  Of course, it seems when things get especially busy, someone in the house falls ill.  This time its Tanner’s turn.  I’m not sure if he has a cold or if its his teeth or what, but he’s cried and cried until the wee hours of the morning for the past two nights.  Hopefully tonight he’ll be feeling much better, or at the very least too tired to cry all night.

I also wanted to remind everyone that this Friday, June 15 is the last day to cast your ballot for the Best of Topeka.  Ballots were included in the May 20 and June 3 editions of the Topeka Capital Journal, or you could just go to Planet Sub, like I did, and grab one.  Be sure to vote for “Centerpiece Photography” in category #85 for the best photo studio / photographer.  As always, I truly appreciate all your support!

Fairies Mini Sessions are “Tutu” Cute

After taking the sample photos for the fairies mini-sessions yesterday, I’m now even more excited for those sessions.  Here’s just a few of my favorite shots of my little neighbor girl (I mean, neighbor fairy) having a great time.

I will furnish the pink fairy wings and tutu’s.  I’ll have enough sets for three girls (I mean, fairies) per session (so a set of three sisters or cousins could be included in one photo and they would all have tutu’s and wings).  The tutu’s will be of various sizes to fit infants to older fairies.  I’ll also have some butterflies they can catch, crowns and bead necklaces.  The fairies will need to bring a leotard or outfit to wear with the tutu.  Infant fairies could just wear the tutu without a leotard or onsie…that would be so cute!  The little neighbor fairy purchased her leotard from Wal-Mart for about $7 (and it matches the tutu perfectly).  I recommend that the fairies with longer hair pull their hair back, otherwise it gets tangled in the wings.  There’s a lot of interest in these sessions as so many of you have asked about them.  Call or e-mail me soon to schedule your session, because I have a feeling these sessions will fill up quickly.
