Splish Splash

Where is Tanner splish splashing?

E-mail your guess to janet@centerpiecephotography.com (NOT to Melissa… Janet will be keeping track of all the entries) by midnight this Monday (September 1).  Each person who answers correctly will be entered in the drawing for the mini-session package.  Check back on Tuesday for the correct answer (and another contest)!  Good luck!

Update:  Five people correctly identified that Tanner was playing in a water puddle in the alley behind the studio.  Keep watching the blog for more contests!

What is This?

Judging by the number of correct entries in the previous contests, the questions aren’t nearly difficult enough, so its time to step it up a bit.  :-)  Identify what Tanner is standing in front of:

You don’t need to identify WHERE this object is, but WHAT it is.

E-mail your guess to janet@centerpiecephotography.com (NOT to Melissa… Janet will be keeping track of all the entries) by midnight this Thursday (August 28).  Each person who answers correctly will be entered in the drawing for the mini-session package.  Check back on Friday for the correct answer (and another contest)!  Good luck!

Update:  I really thought this contest was more difficult than previous contests, but lots of you e-mailed in with the correct answer:  A garage door.  I’m not sure of the exact address but this really colorful garage is in Topeka (somewhere between downtown and the hospitals).  When I first saw it I just knew I’d have to get some photos of Tanner in front of those colorful doors.  Here’s another shot where you can see more of the garage:

Thanks to everyone for participating in the contests!  I’m so glad to hear that you are enjoying them.  Keep checking back for more fun.

And For Today’s Contest . . .

Where did Tanner spend a rosey day feeding goats:

mining for treasure:

and having a not so much fun in the one room school house:

E-mail your guess to janet@centerpiecephotography.com (NOT to Melissa… Janet will be keeping track of all the entries) by midnight this Tuesday (August 26).  Each person who answers correctly will be entered in the drawing for the mini-session package.  Check back on Wednesday for the correct answer (and another contest)!  Good luck!

Update:  Congratulations to the twelve people who correctly identified that Tanner was at Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead in Kansas City.  I highly recommend the farm if you have kids!  Tons of great things to do and most things are FREE!

Where’s Tanner?

Here’s another exciting round of “Where’s Tanner?”

Hint:  Tanner is drinking from a fountain that’s in front of a business.  The correct answer is the name of that business.

E-mail your guess to janet@centerpiecephotography.com (NOT to Melissa… Janet will be keeping track of all the entries) by midnight this Sunday (August 24).  Each person who answers correctly will be entered in the drawing for the mini-session package.  Check back on Monday for the correct answer (and another contest)!  Good luck!

Update:  We had 8 correct entries in this contest.  Tanner was drinking from the frog fountain that’s in front of Porterfields.  Several of you have asked whether he was actually drinking from the fountain (yes), whether the fountain is intended for drinking (no), and whether he got sick from drinking the water (no, thankfully).

Happy Birthday Centerpiece Photography!

Can you believe Centerpiece Photography is already 2 years old!  What an exciting milestone.  To celebrate, we’ll be hosting fun contests on the blog that will run through September 19.  Be sure to check the blog frequently because I’ll be posting new contests (hopefully several each week).  Each contest will remain open for a day or so and then all the people who provided the correct answer before the deadline will be entered in a drawing for a free mini-session and a mini-session portrait package (a $300 value)!  How exciting!  Please enter each contest only one time (don’t guess multiple answers for the same contest), but feel free to enter all of the contests to get as many entries in the drawing as possible.  Also, each member of your family is welcome to enter the contests (for example, a husband and wife can both send in e-mails entering the same contest).

Here’s the first contest:  Where’s Tanner?

E-mail your guess to janet@centerpiecephotography.com (NOT to Melissa… Janet will be keeping track of all the entries) by midnight this Thursday (August 21).  Again, each person who answers correctly will be entered in the drawing for the mini-session package.  Check back on Friday for the correct answer (and another contest)!  Good luck!

Update:  Thank you to everyone who entered the contest.  The responses cracked me up.  I especially liked the guesses that Tanner was at Lake Shawnee.  He was actually at Niagra Falls.  There was one correct answer submitted before the deadline.  Be sure to check for another contest that’ll start today.

Project of the Month - July “Before” and “After”

You know that old saying about the cobbler’s children having no shoes?  Well, that adage holds true for photographers’ children having no photos.  In Tanner’s case, its not a matter of him not having photos (he’s got a few thousand of ‘em), but rather a matter of his photos not being out on display.  Other than a collage of photos in his room, three small photos hanging in my home office, a few on the fridge and a pathetic arrangement on the fireplace, there’s no photos of Tanner displayed at our house.  How sad.

So, I’ve decided to start a “Project of the Month” where I’ll be adding creative photo displays to my house and you’ll get to follow along on the blog.  Hopefully these projects will not only get me motivated, but it’ll also inspire you to do something creative in your own home and office as well.

July started with the aforementioned pathetic arrangement of photos on the fireplace.  Here’s the “before”:

I decided that I wanted to create a large display of three photos that I’d taken of Tanner at a favorite downtown Topeka location.  The photos not only showed his fun personality but the colors in the photos blended nicely with our furnishings (just another thing to keep in mind when selecting outfits for those photo sessions).  To decide on the size for the photos, I took three pieces of cardboard and placed them on the mantel to see how they looked:

Those sizes (about 16 by 20) looked great, so I knew what size to order the prints and frames.  Then after hanging, adjusting, rehanging and readjusting the prints a few dozen times so that they were perfectly level and even, we now have this fun display:

If you’re in need of inspiration for your next photo display project, be sure to go to my main website, www.centerpiecephotography.com then click on “Portfolio” and then “Design Gallery” for informative diagrams with different wall displays.  (You’ll see the diagram that inspired the mantel project in that gallery.)  I’d love to see your displays, so be sure to e-mail me your “before” and “after” images.

The August Project of the Month is Tanner’s room.  I’ve already got a good start on that project and I’m super excited about how his room is coming together.  Hopefully, I’ll be posting those “before” images soon.
