You know that old saying about the cobbler’s children having no shoes? Well, that adage holds true for photographers’ children having no photos. In Tanner’s case, its not a matter of him not having photos (he’s got a few thousand of ‘em), but rather a matter of his photos not being out on display. Other than a collage of photos in his room, three small photos hanging in my home office, a few on the fridge and a pathetic arrangement on the fireplace, there’s no photos of Tanner displayed at our house. How sad.
So, I’ve decided to start a “Project of the Month” where I’ll be adding creative photo displays to my house and you’ll get to follow along on the blog. Hopefully these projects will not only get me motivated, but it’ll also inspire you to do something creative in your own home and office as well.
July started with the aforementioned pathetic arrangement of photos on the fireplace. Here’s the “before”:

I decided that I wanted to create a large display of three photos that I’d taken of Tanner at a favorite downtown Topeka location. The photos not only showed his fun personality but the colors in the photos blended nicely with our furnishings (just another thing to keep in mind when selecting outfits for those photo sessions). To decide on the size for the photos, I took three pieces of cardboard and placed them on the mantel to see how they looked:

Those sizes (about 16 by 20) looked great, so I knew what size to order the prints and frames. Then after hanging, adjusting, rehanging and readjusting the prints a few dozen times so that they were perfectly level and even, we now have this fun display:

If you’re in need of inspiration for your next photo display project, be sure to go to my main website, www.centerpiecephotography.com then click on “Portfolio” and then “Design Gallery” for informative diagrams with different wall displays. (You’ll see the diagram that inspired the mantel project in that gallery.) I’d love to see your displays, so be sure to e-mail me your “before” and “after” images.
The August Project of the Month is Tanner’s room. I’ve already got a good start on that project and I’m super excited about how his room is coming together. Hopefully, I’ll be posting those “before” images soon.
