Centerpiece Photography welcomes aboard Erinn Bradstreet as its studio manager. Erinn has 8 years experience in the photography industry and will be a valuable asset to the studio. One of the first things on her to-do list was a photo session with her sons.

After the session a family member asked the boys how their session went. They were apparently pretty excited that a police officer (really a security guard) asked us to leave when we were shooting the photos in front of the blue tiles. Funny, I wasn’t very excited about that because I love those tiles.

Several months ago, I was contacted by a new local business, Sunflower Smiles Pediatric Dentistry, to provide portraits to decorate their new dentist office, which is now open at 5501 SW 29th Street, Topeka. I was so excited about this project because Dr. Michael Browning and his wife, Dr. Sarah Browning, wanted colorful, fun portraits of kids which fits my style perfectly! Here’s just one of my favorites:

I love how the display came together for their front office.

We also did a series of toothbrushing photos, which are displayed in the waiting area. Notice Tanner in this shot getting ready for his appointment.

Dr. Browning has a puppy and he wanted to get some fun shots of his niece brushing the puppy’s teeth. It was absolutely hilarious to watch this process and I think the photo, which is displayed in a treatment room, is so fun.

Dr. Browning’s office is state-of-the-art, complete with game systems for the kids to play and cable TVs hanging from the ceiling for the kids to watch during their appointment. Although Tanner got off to a rough start at his appointment:

Dr. Browning handled Tanner’s total and complete melt down situation wonderfully and after I left the room, Tanner was just fine and enjoyed his appointment. I snuck back in to take some more photos (of course!).

If your kids are due for their pediatric dentist appointment, be sure to give Sunflower Smiles a call at 785-215-6658.

Summer is finally here and we have lots of fun mini-sessions on the schedule:
Silhouette Portraits – All Summer – The silhouette portraits are quickly becoming a customer favorite. If you are looking for very interesting portraits of your family or children, you should definitely consider one of these sessions. The sessions can be held in an open field or under a beautiful old tree. I love it when the kids are playing with something in the portraits, such as balloons or a hula hoop. I can only host one of these sessions each day (because there’s only one sunset each day), that’s why the sessions are available all summer. You can add a silhouette session to the end of a traditional portrait session and get a great variety of images.

Gage Park Rose Garden Sessions – June 26 and 27 – The Rose Garden at Gage Park makes the perfect setting for colorful summer portraits. Little boys may prefer to have portraits taken around the pond or nearby bridge. Here are a couple recent images from the Rose Garden.

Kansas City Strawberry Hill – July 11 – These sessions will be held in at Strawberry Hill, an urban area in Kansas City, which features wonderful old buildings, fences and stairs.

Painted Tires – July 17 and 18 – I am SO looking forward to the painted tires mini-sessions. Tanner and I painted old tires lots of bright colors and they will be featured in these upcoming sessions. Kids LOVE playing on the tires, which results in relaxed, natural images.

Animal Land – Gage Park – July 31 and August 1 – You and your children have wonderful memories playing on the concrete animals at Animal Land in Gage Park. Here’s your opportunity to preserve those memories in portraits. Those colorful animals and barns make great locations for photos.

Downtown Topeka – August 15 – These sessions will feature unique architecture, specifically the black fencing shown below.

Availability for each of the sessions is very limited and the sessions do book quickly. The mini-session session fee for new customers is $50. The session fee is waived for repeat customers as a thank you for your continued business. If you would like to add a silhouette session to the end of a traditional session, there would be a regular session session fee of $100 for new customers. There is a deposit for all customers of $100 for each session, which is applied to your order. To reserve your session, just call (785-232-4768) or e-mail (melissa@centerpiecephotography.com) today!

I did a little spring cleaning last week to the website. I updated all the images to some of my recent favorites. You’ll have to head over there and check it out! A lot of you will see some familiar faces.
I’m also in the process of updating the prints at the studio and I need your help. After you’ve had a chance to check out the new pics on the web, shoot me an e-mail and let me know your favorite(s) so that I can narrow down the options for the studio. Everyone who puts in their two cents by Friday, April 24 will be entered in a drawing for a coupon for $50 off a portrait collection.
In case anyone was wondering, my favorite image is the new blog header and is posted below. Yes, that’s Tanner. Yes, he’s playing in a creek. And, no, we didn’t stay dry for the entire session. Which was unfortunate considering it was November.
Update: Congratulations to Kelli M. who won the big prize. Thank you all for your input on the images. I have some great ideas now on what to hang at the studio. Favorite images included the family silhouette, the baby curled up with arms and legs extended, the two tutu photos and Tanner playing in the creek (of course, I’m partial to that one too).

When I was practicing law, I knew the work I was doing was important. Protecting a criminal defendant’s Constitutional rights is important. Protecting a creditor’s rights in bankruptcy is important. Yesterday, I realized that the work I’m doing now as a photographer is also important.
Photographing families is important.

Many of you had the pleasure of meeting Janet when she worked for me. Yesterday, her fiance Greg Wadkins and his brother Chris were killed in a tragic car accident. My thoughts go out to the Wadkins and Pruett families, particularly to Janet and Greg’s son Jack.

Easter is right around the corner. We will be hosting our Easter portrait mini-sessions again this year which will feature. Its always fun to see the kids’ reactions to the bunny. Here’s Tanner from last year:

This year the set for the bunny sessions will be a little different. As some of you know, we’ve been doing some remodeling to the studio and we’ve added a beautiful hardwood floor to the shooting area, which we will feature in the sessions. I also have some fun, but simple, egg decorations I’m planning on using in some of the bunny portraits, so we have a lot to look forward to with these sessions.
The bunny sessions will be Saturday, April 4. If you aren’t able to make it that day, please check with me as an alternate date may be available. There is a $50 session fee that is waived for repeat customers. If you have any questions or would like to reserve your session, please call or e-mail.
